Intentions Behind Criticism | In this section, we look at the power of intention and why it is so important to understand your own intentions behind communicating feedback. We also delve into the difference between constructive and destructive criticism and give you a case study where you will learn about containing criticism. This section also contains a short quiz to further your understanding of the content. |
Giving the Criticism |
In this section, we go through how to deliver criticism in such a way that your colleague will understand and not respond poorly to. You'll learn about using the best words in a tricky situation and before talking about the right language for sharing criticism, we examine tone of voice. You'll discover the 'Three 'I's' method and how it can help you to share criticism more effectively. |
Supporting Actionable Change |
Once you've provided a clear piece of criticism that uses the 'Three 'I's' method that you'll have learned in the previous section, you should share with your colleague what needs to change. We go through turning criticism around into something constructive and useful and give examples of this. |
Extension Task | By this section, you'll have covered a lot of material. To really get to grips with what it all means, this task will put you to the test. If you'd like some extra practice constructing and giving effective criticism, then this is the activity for you. In it, you'll be given different scenarios and asked to write down the criticism you would give. |
