While a food hygiene certificate isn’t compulsory it is strongly recommended by the Food Standards Agency (FSA) and other official bodies. Under UK/EU law, anyone working with food must have appropriate training for their role. We would recommend Level 2 training for anyone working from home, find out more here.
There is no requirement to complete levels 1, 2 and 3 of food hygiene training, if you want to progress straight to level 2 or 3 you do not need to complete the prior levels of training. Each level of food hygiene training will look at different topics and deliver knowledge to the learner.
A food hygiene certificate is a document given to food handlers or anyone who completes a Food Safety & Hygiene training course that has been accredited.
