Licensing Law Awareness FAQs

  • What is a personal alcohol licence course?

Our Licensing Law Awareness Training Course is an online course that looks at the Licensing Act 2003 in detail and explains how you can achieve its objectives. You may decide you need to obtain a APLH (Award for Personal Licence Holders) which is a qualification that Virtual College do not currently offer and can take several days to complete.

  • How long does it take to get a liquor license in the UK?

Once you have received your (APLH) Personal Licence qualification you will need to apply to a council for your Personal Licence. This will depend on the individual council but typically this takes four weeks however it can take as long as two months.

  • What is APLH training?

APLH training stands for Award for Personal Licence Holders. You or a member of your staff must hold a personal licence if you sell alcohol from licensed premises, so that every sale or supply of alcohol is authorised by a licence holder. The training will provide a clear understanding of the framework of the law and regulation, licensing objectives, licensing authorities and personal and premises licences.
