Course description

Our Risk Assessment in the workplace course teaches workers in a supervisory position how to carry out a risk assessment properly.

Our CPD-approved risk assessment course teaches supervisors and managers the practical skills needed to identify hazards, evaluate risks and implement the necessary control measures. You'll learn to conduct thorough assessments tailored to your specific workplace environment, whether you manage an office, retail space, warehouse, classroom, or construction site.

We all want to be safe, yet hundreds of thousands of accidents happen at work every year. That has a big impact on the individuals affected, as well as the productivity of businesses that lose time and money when an accident occurs. Therefore, preventing accidents is essential.

All managers or supervisors are responsible for health and safety in their workplaces, and risk assessments are a key part in this. Workplace health and safety assessments should be conducted to assess the impact of the working environment and the specific activities that are carried out.

This Risk Assessment in the workplace course teaches you how to carry out a risk assessment properly, including understanding the hierarchy of risk control.

Risk assessments are vital in the workplace for safeguarding the health and wellbeing of staff. Already, Health and Safety Executive statistics show that 665,000 workplace injuries were reported between 2023/24 alone.

Without risk assessments, this figure could be much higher, costing businesses even more in terms of finances and productivity, and putting more workers at risk. However, it is clear that more risk assessments are needed to help lower this figure in the future - and that's where Virtual College's Risk Assessment in the Workplace e-learning course comes in.

Through engaging interactive content featuring graphics, videos and practical challenges, you'll master:

  • Hazard identification
  • Risk evaluation
  • Identification and implementation of control measures
  • Communication
  • Monitoring and review of risk assessments

Our self-paced Health and Safety courses allow you to fit learning around your schedule whilst automatically tracking your progress. Upon successful completion of the course (requiring an 80% pass mark on the final assessment), you'll receive a RoSPA-assured Virtual College certificate.

Duration: 30-45 minutes, depending on your learning pace.

This course was previously known as "An Introduction to Risk Assessment"

Who is this risk assessment online training course for?

The risk assessment training is for anyone responsible for workplace safety—from office managers to shop owners, warehouse supervisors to teachers. No prior qualifications are needed, just a desire to create a safer work environment.

How is the course structured?

Our risk assessment course uses interactive learning to teach the essential Hierarchy of Control framework. You'll master a systematic approach to risk management, from elimination of hazards through to personal protective equipment.

The course covers key concepts including safe systems of work, worker consultation, method statements, and competence requirements through engaging graphics, videos, and knowledge checks.

Learners will be given questions to answer throughout the risk management training course, with the correct responses only visible once they've had a go for themselves, encouraging them to have a go and learn new information.

One of the many benefits of e-learning is that it is self-paced, meaning learners can spend as long as they need to study each part of the course. It also means supervisors can fit in their digital training around their other work commitments, as the Virtual College Learning Management System will automatically log their progress each time they have to step away from the course.
