Overview - Nutrition, Healthy Eating and Wellbeing in Childcare Settings

This course will support you in evaluating the effectiveness of your nutrition and healthy eating policy and to review this with your updated knowledge to promote health and well being throughout your setting.

Throughout the course there are activities for learners to review their knowledge as they progress. Some of these activities are computer-based and some are to be completed in the workplace.

Having completed this course the learner will have covered many of the different facets of nutrition, how it can be applied within their own setting and will have developed an awareness of the links to EYFS and ECM agenda.

Objectives

On completion of this module learners will:

  • Appreciate their role in having a positive influence on the nutrition of young children
  • Understand the value of healthy eating
  • Be able to plan a menu
  • Have an awareness for Food Hygiene issues
  • Be able to develop the knowledge and attitudes of children towards food and healthy eating
  • Understand how to involve parents and carers
  • Be able to develop a Nutrition/Food/Healthy Eating Policy
  • Understand the importance of Oral Health
  • Be aware of a range of activities to promote healthy eating
  • Develop an awareness of links to the EYFS and the ECM agenda The course comes with an online assessment and certificate on achieving a satisfactory pass mark.

Accreditation

The content of this course has been independently certified as conforming to universally accepted Continuous Professional Development (CPD) guidelines

Certification

On completion of this course you will be able to download a Virtual College certificate.

Duration

Approximately 2 - 3 hours. The length of time taken depends entirely on how quickly you can study and absorb the material. You can proceed as quickly or slowly as you like, and there is no limit on how long you can take to do the course.

Target Audience

Produced by the National Day Nursery Association (NDNA) this course is aimed at practitioners who are working in an early years setting.

This course will support those with responsibility for the planning and delivery of an appropriately balanced nutritious diet within childcare settings and the delivery of that diet.

However, the learning content is suitable for anyone interested in learning more about child care best practice including those working in playgroups, pre-school, child minders and schools.
